HIGH MASS OF THE ASSUMPTION OF OUR LADY
Friday 15th August, 1997
at All Saints' Wickham Terrace, Brisbane
Fr David writes: This recording is a precious memento of All Saints' at that particular period. Hoping to capture something of the celebration, I left my small Sony dictation recorder going for the length of the Mass, and have only recently converted the recording to MP3 format. Most of the spoken parts are inaudible, and have been edited out. But the music, while scratchy in places, showcases the sound of the T.C. Lewis organ before its restoration began; the stringed instruments can be heard supporting the choir and organ, and the singing of choir and congregation conveys very well the joy of the Gospel and the Catholic Faith.
On the recording I am the Celebrant. David Barkla is the Organist and Director of Music. The Rev'd Bernard Buttery is Deacon of the Mass, and the Prayers of the Faithful are read by Lorraine Hines, Churchwarden. The Mass Setting is an adaptation of Schubert's Deutsche Messe.
